Freedom of information
What is the Freedom of Information Act?
The Freedom of Information Act 2000 requires all public bodies in the UK to provide a general right of access to the information they hold.
This right of access became effective on January 1st 2005. To comply with the Act all public bodies must produce a Publication Scheme with the aim to set out:
- What information is published or intended to be published as a matter of course
- How the information may be published
- Whether the information will be available free of charge or on payment of a fee
- What classes of information will not be published
How does Safecam ensure compliance with the Act?
We are committed to being open and wherever possible will provide information to the public proactively. Our website contains all the information that we feel the
public has an interest in viewing.
We also have a dedicated Freedom of Information Officer who deals with all requests personally to ensure consistency.
Requesting Information in relation to a Notice of Intended Prosecution
If you have a general enquiry in respect of a Notice of Intended Prosecution, in the first instance please contact the Camera Processing Unit.
The Camera Processing Unit will provide, on general request, any information you are entitled to receive; which includes certain details
about the camera equipment, the camera operator, the location of the offence, and photographic evidence.
If, after corresponding with the Camera Processing Unit, you would like to make a further request for information specifically under the
Freedom of Information Act, please see details below.
How can I request Information?
If you would like access to information which you cannot find on our website you may put forward a request to our Freedom of Information Officer.
In accordance with the Act your request must be in writing (this can constitute a written/typed letter or e-mail) and you must also provide your name and
an address for correspondance (this can be an e-mail or physical address). A request cannot be made over the telephone.
Please note that certain information is exempt from disclosure, where this occurs you will be fully informed of which exemption has been applied and why.
Occasionally a request may exceed the cost of complying limit set by the regulations. The regulations are that the Police Service are obliged to provide
information requested up to a limit in terms of cost of £450. This equates to approximately two and a half days work (based on £25 an hour, the
Nationally agreed rate to use.) Should this be the case you will be informed directly and advised to reduce your request.
