Welcome to Speed Choice

Speed Choice is an education programme run by Somerset County Council that is designed to support the Safecam's casualty reduction strategy by raising drivers' awareness of the dangers of using excessive or inappropriate speed.

The course is open to the general public but the vast majority of attendees are those caught driving a little over the speed limit, the so-called "low end speeders". Currently, the course is offered to those detected at 39mph or less in a 30mph speed limit.

Speed Choice has been running since April 2003 and more than 60,000 people have attended the workshops. Feedback has shown that the vast majority have found it to be a positive and thought-provoking experience.

The workshops are held in a very informal atmosphere and are run by road safety experts. Open discussion is encouraged and the overall aim is to facilitate learning in a light and enjoyable environment.
